Botox Parties and Safety

Botox “parties” are a social gathering at salons or in a person’s home. It sounds like a fun way to gather with friends, enjoy a glass of wine and snacks. Sometimes the treatment is offered at a discounted rate. However, a Botox party may not have the safety measures in place to ensure an effective treatment. Hostesses who agree to turn their home or salon into “spas” for such medical procedures often benefit with special offers, including free Botox, skincare products, and other discounts. Unfortunately, it is easy to get caught up in the excitement and ignore the potential risks.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG?

Botox is largely considered safe and low-risk when administered by a trained medical professional. However, there are some rare complications that can occur when injections are not administered in precisely the right place or dosage.

Serious side effects include muscle weakness, vision problems and trouble breathing. All of these can occur within hours of treatment.

Medical treatments and alcohol are never a good mix. Alcohol affects not only our ability to make sound decisions – where to have the injections and how much money to spend on them, for example – but it also thins the blood, causing excessive bleeding and next-day bruising.

At Botox parties, consent and privacy are often overlooked. In legitimate practices, patients complete a medical history and sign an informed consent document before having Botox injections.

If you’re considering Botox injections, don’t take chances. Seek treatment from a licensed professional. He or she will go over your medical history and medication use as well as explain the possible risks and results to help you determine if Botox is right for you.

THINGS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT:

  • No medical records – Love your Botox results and want to replicate it? That may be difficult if you go to a Botox Party, as you’ll have no medical records. When you get your Botox treatment at Associated Dermatology Laser Clinic, we carefully review your medical history to ensure the treatment is a safe choice for you. Your treatment results are part of your medical records for future reference.
  • Informed Consent – Botox is very safe, but it does have a few risks. You may not get all the information you need to make an informed choice about your treatment at a Botox party. Alcohol and peer pressure may influence you to make a decision that you aren’t comfortable with. Additionally, drinking alcohol increases your risk of bruising from Botox.
  • Potential Unsanitary Conditions – Is the Botox provider at the Botox party following best practices for hand washing, glove use, and syringe safety? There is a larger potential for unsanitary conditions at a Botox party then in a medical office.
  • Is It Really Botox? – When you receive Botox treatments from Associated Dermatology Laser Clinic you can be certain that you’re receiving legitimate Botox that has been obtained from a trusted source.
  • An Unknown Injector – Great Botox requires a skilled injector. Associated Dermatology Laser Clinic has been providing Botox to patients for many years and is known for beautiful, natural looking results.
  • Availability to Medical Assistance – Botox emergencies are rare but, should one occur, you will want to be in a medical office with immediate access to trained medical professionals and lifesaving equipment.
